Graduate Counseling - Addictions Counseling Program and Accreditation

There is a great need for the addiction professional in America today. The Lewin Group, a Maryland-based consulting firm, reports that 5,000 new addiction professionals are needed each year just to replace those who are leaving the field. This need is created by the rising number of addicting materials created and used each year. Individuals all over the world are losing the battle to any number of those addictions.

At Indiana Wesleyan University we believe there is a need to help the addicted in the greater community of America and the world. To help individuals break these addictions we want to prepare students to work in a variety of mental health settings. We provide students with a graduate education that allows them to gain hands on experience while being clinically supervised by men and women of diverse cultural backgrounds who hold Ph.D.'s in a variety of areas related to counseling. Indiana Wesleyan University's goal is to provide the world with the most qualified professionals that seek to serve their community in character, scholarship, and leadership.

Students can earn a Master of Arts degree with a major in Addictions Counseling through Indiana Wesleyan University's 48-credit hour, 63-credit hour, and 72-credit hour addictions counseling programs. The 48-credit hour curriculum meets the minimum requirements for state certification and for the Master Addictions Counselor Certification (MAC) at the national level. The 63-credit hour curriculum meets state educational requirements for licensure for mental health counseling. The 72-credit hour curriculum meets state requirements to take the licensure exam in marital and family therapy. Admission to the programs requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0.
